Zhao Qingshuai is a trainer of "Fu Zai" and has been engaged in dog training for 11 years. He told Jiupai News that at present, "Fu Zai" is undergoing basic training in obedience subjects and explosive search, and is working hard to pass the assessment to become a formal police dog.
Zhao Qingshuai recalled that the first time he met "Fu Zai", he felt that "Fu Zai" has great potential, and it likes to interact with people. He introduced that the corgi dog, as a cattle dog, is a working dog with a cute image, which can reduce people's rejection and fear in the search and explosion work. Jiupai News: Can you introduce you and Fu Zai?
Zhao Qingshuai: Fu Zai was born on August 28, 2023, and is now 7 months old. It has been trained since February this year, and is currently used as a reserve police dog, and it has to pass the assessment to become an official police dog.
I have been engaged in police dog training for more than two years, but I have been training dogs for a long time before, and I have been engaged in dog training for nearly 11 years since graduating from university.
Jiupai News: What kind of opportunity did you meet Fu Zai?
Zhao Qingshuai: Usually we go to the lawn next to the training base to conduct tracking training, and after training, we see the original owner of Fu Tsai playing there. Because we have always brought large dogs, I think it is very cute when I see small dogs, I play with it, I ask what is the name, its owner said "Fu Zai", I called Fu Zai over, and it came to me. First of all, the selection of police dogs requires that they like to interact with people, which is the most basic. As soon as I can summon it, it means that this dog has potential.
Jiupai News: The common police dogs are Demu, Springer, etc., many people have doubts, why can corgis be used as police dogs?
Zhao Qingshuai: Its owner was also very surprised by this at first, a little unconvinced, and I said I could try it. Because the corgi belongs to the cattle dog, the cattle dog itself is a working dog, if an individual is particularly good, it can definitely be used as a police dog.
Jiupai News: In your work experience, is it relatively rare to train a small dog like a corgi?
Zhao Qingshuai: When I joined the police, the common small dogs were Jack Russell Terriers, which were used as police dogs, and there were also some Jack Russell Terriers as work dogs. But corgis, according to our observations, are currently not available in the country.

Jiupai News: What are the differences between Fu Zai in the training process?
Zhao Qingshuai: Except for the short legs, which cost my waist, everything else is very good. Normal dog training, the early stage is to do dog shaping, in the shaping process, the large dog is a little taller, I may bend over a little, and training Fu Zi I may have to squat, from squatting to bending, and then to half squatting to standing.

Jiupai News: During the security patrol, other police dogs were led, and Fu Zai was carried by you, what was the situation at that time?
Zhao Qingshuai: At that time, I was participating in the training of security patrols, because there were many people in Taihua Plaza, and Fu Tsai was relatively small and easy to be stepped on by pedestrians, so we had to carry it on our backs. Moreover, Fu Zai's main job is to carry out explosive searches, such as security patrols to allow dogs to increase environmental operations.
Jiupai News: What are the advantages of Fuzi as a corgi?
Zhao Qingshuai: Short legs are one of the advantages, such as when it comes to searching for explosives, it may involve searching cars and rooms, like the bottom of the car and the bottom of the bed, large dogs cannot enter, while small dogs can stand in it. And Fu Zai is a smaller dog in the corgi, it will stop growing in a month or two, and its current weight is 15 pounds.
Another advantage is that it comes across as more intimate. The explosive search dog itself is not as dangerous as the nature of the work of the security or drug detection dog, and is widely used in airports and railway stations.

Jiupai News: How did you get along with Fu Tsai during the training process, and what were some of the things that impressed you?
Zhao Qingshuai: Personally, no matter what breed of dog it is, I will treat it as a child. As our future comrade-in-arms, it cannot speak, and in order to reach a tacit understanding, I must understand it comprehensively, and let it understand me comprehensively. Fu Zai's personality is more lively, and he will be naughty when he is not training, but this is not actually a shortcoming, but this kind of activity will be more suitable for later training, no dog is naturally suitable for working for humans, and both parties have to pay energy.
What impressed me was that when it was a child, I occasionally had to take it home to do environmental exercises, so that it could adapt to the environment, and every time I had to carry it upstairs, because the steps were relatively high, and it was too young to jump up.
Jiupai News: Fu Zai is currently a reserve police dog, and its training direction is explosive search dogs, do you have any expectations for it?
Zhao Qingshuai: Later, if the search explosion is formed, it may be allowed to conduct reserve training for drug search. But at present, the main task is to "turn regular" through the assessment and serve the people as an official police dog. I hope that Fu Zai can get better and better, more and more progressive, in terms of life, I hope Fu Zai can be safe.

Zhao Qingshuai: Of course, there is pressure, everyone is more concerned about Fu Zai's training, through this period of observation and training, the overall feeling is good, it has been exposed to this environment since childhood, it is a better state for it.
