The impact of an "all-round" cold air on the northern part of the mainland has gradually unfolded, and strong winds, sand and dust, and cooling weather have occurred in many places in the north.

The main impact period of this sand and dust process is from 27 to 28 days, and it will affect more than 10 provinces, including Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, etc.

The sky in Inner Mongolia turns orange

At around 10 o'clock, there were strong winds, sandstorms, and cold waves in Wuchuan County, Hohhot City, Inner Mongolia, and as of 12:55, the maximum wind speed reached 27.8m/s (level 10). The local meteorological department issued a yellow warning signal for high winds at 9:47 a.m., a blue warning signal for cold waves at 11:34 a.m., and a yellow warning signal for sandstorms at 12:31 p.m.

According to the Central Meteorological Observatory, affected by sandstorms, the visibility in Inner Mongolia Sunit Right Banner and Siziwang Banner has decreased significantly, and the local visibility is less than 200 meters.

At 11 o'clock in the morning, there was a strong wind and dust weather in Erenhot City, Xilin Gol League, with a maximum wind speed of 26.9m/s (level 10).

As of 11:40, the maximum wind speed reached 28.4m/s (level 10), and the minimum visibility was 88 meters, and the Sunit Right Banner Meteorological Bureau issued a red warning for sandstorms at 11:51, and emergency measures such as suspension of work, suspension of classes, suspension of production, and suspension of operation have been taken. Windy and dusty weather is expected to continue.

According to the forecast of the Meteorological Observatory of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, in the next two days, there will be light rain, sleet or snow in the central and southern parts of the Xilin Gol League, the central part of Chifeng City, the northeast of Tongliao City, the northern part of the Xing'an League, and most of Hulunbuir City. There are short-term northwesterly winds of level 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 in most areas of the region, gusts of up to 8 or 9 in the north-central and northeast areas, and sand blowing weather and local sandstorms in the east-west, most of the central and southeastern areas, and the temperature in the eastern region drops by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius.

Three early warnings were issued at the same time

The Central Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow warning for sandstorms at 6 o'clock on the 27th: Affected by cold air and strong winds, it is expected that from 8 o'clock on the 27th to 8 o'clock on the 28th, some areas in southern Xinjiang, most of Inner Mongolia, Hexi in Gansu, Ningxia, central and northern Shaanxi, central and northern Shanxi, most of Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, western Liaoning, western Jilin and other places have sand or floating dust weather, of which some areas in central and western Inner Mongolia have sandstorms and local strong sandstorms.

Meteorological experts pointed out that spring (March to May) is the most frequent season of sand and dust, and since the beginning of this year, there have been two large-scale sand and dust weather processes on the mainland, which are less than the average of the past ten years (4 times), and the high temperature and low rainfall in the northern sand source area in the early stage and the eastward movement of the Mongolian cyclone are the main causes of the formation of this round of sand and dust.

During the influence of cold air, there will be the development of Mongolian cyclones, and a large pressure difference will be formed between the cold and high pressures. The Central Meteorological Observatory issued a blue warning for gales at 6 o'clock on the 27th: It is expected that from 8 o'clock on the 27th to 8 o'clock on the 28th, most of Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, northern Shaanxi, northern Shanxi, northern Hebei, central and western Liaoning, central and western Jilin, southwestern Heilongjiang and other places have 5~6 winds, gusts of 7~8, and local 9~10;

The Central Meteorological Observatory issued a blue warning for heavy rain at 6 o'clock on the 27th: It is expected that from 8 o'clock on the 27th to 8 o'clock on the 28th, there will be heavy to heavy rain in parts of eastern Guizhou, central and northeastern Hunan, southeastern Hubei, northern Jiangxi, southern Anhui, and southwestern Zhejiang. Some of the above-mentioned areas are accompanied by short-term heavy precipitation, and there are strong convective weather such as thunderstorms and strong winds locally.

The rain in the south will decrease briefly on the 29th, but it will develop and increase again on the 30th, so the rainy weather in the south will remain for a long time.

The sand source area is high temperature and dry

As a result, the sand and dust in the north are large

What causes a large-scale and intense dust weather process. In the future, whether the northern region will still be affected by sand and dust weather, let's look at the analysis given by experts from the National Meteorological Center of the China Meteorological Administration↓↓↓

Zhang Bihui, Director of the Environmental Meteorological Office of the National Meteorological Center: The northern part of the mainland and the main sand source areas in southern Mongolia have experienced a relatively significant warming, with the highest temperature exceeding 18 °C, 2 °C ~ 4 °C higher than that of the same period in normal years, and the precipitation in the above areas is significantly less. Warmer temperatures and less precipitation also contributed to a significant decrease in snow cover in these areas compared to February, so the bare ground provided very favourable sand source conditions for dust and sand. During the eastward movement of the Mongolian cyclone and the rear high pressure, the above-mentioned sand source areas brought windy weather with gusts of more than 8, which was very conducive to the sand and dust collection and transport.

Zhang Bihui said that due to the impact of sand and dust, most of the mainland Inner Mongolia, Ningxia, central and northern Shaanxi, central and northern Shanxi, Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, western Liaoning, and western Jilin will have a wide range of sand and dust weather.

It is expected that around April 2, under the influence of a new wave of cold air, the northern part of the mainland may be affected by sand and dust weather again. Dusty weather is associated with high winds, low visibility and increased sand and dust concentrations, so it is important to guard against the impact on temporary buildings, traffic and human health.

Defense Guide:

1. Be prepared for wind and sand, and close doors and windows in time;

2. Pay attention to carry masks, gauze towels and other dust-proof supplies to avoid damage to the eyes and respiratory tract caused by sand and dust;

3. Tighten hoardings, scaffolding, temporary structures and other structures that are easily blown by the wind, and properly place outdoor items that are easily affected by sandstorms;

4. Due to the low visibility, the driver should control the speed to ensure safety.
