On March 29, 2024, the Jingzhou Intermediate People's Court in Hubei Province held a public trial of the first instance of the bribery case of Li Yuyi, former vice chairman of the Chinese Football Association.

The Jingzhou Municipal People's Procuratorate alleges: From 2004 to 2021, the defendant Li Yuyi successively took advantage of his position as deputy secretary and head of the Jinshan District Party Committee of Shanghai, vice chairman of the Chinese Football Association, and chairman of the board of directors of the Chinese Super League Co., Ltd., or the convenience of his authority and status, to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in matters such as the relegation of the football club league and the contracting of engineering projects, and illegally accepted money from others totaling more than 12 million yuan. The procuratorate requested that Li Yuyi be investigated for criminal responsibility for the crime of accepting bribes.

During the trial, the procuratorate presented relevant evidence, the defendant Li Yuyi and his defender conducted cross-examination, the prosecution and defense fully expressed their opinions under the auspices of the court, and Li Yuyi made a final statement and pleaded guilty and repented in court.

At the end of the trial, the court announced an adjournment and announced the verdict at a later date.

More than 40 people, including deputies to the National People's Congress, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, journalists, and people from all walks of life, attended the trial.

The case of Ma Chengquan, former director of the Executive Board of the Professional League Council of the Chinese Football Association and former chairman of the board of directors of the Chinese Super League Co., Ltd., who accepted bribes and used his influence to accept bribes, was also tried in open court by the Chongyang County People's Court in Hubei Province on the same day.
