Gujing Gongjiu and Yanghe both belong to Jianghuai strong fragrance, and the style is slightly similar, but there is a big difference. In the last century, Yanghe and Gujing Gongjiu were produced with four grains. After the process reform, the koji-making and production raw materials of Gujing Gongjiu became Wuliang, while the koji-making and production raw materials of Yanghe became the production of Qiliang.

In April 2018, in order to further expand the high-end market, Gujing Group launched the vintage puree series Gu 20 that year, which was first listed in Hefei that year. Yanghe Dream Blue M6+ comes from Yanghe's blue classic series and is an upgraded version of the original M6. In 2019, Yanghe Distillery launched an upgraded version of the Dream Blue M6+, and discontinued the original M6.

At present, these two wines are the core orders of the two companies. It is estimated that the sales of Gu 20 in 2023 may be more than 6 billion, and Yanghe M6+ is close to 10 billion. As for the ancient 20 and Dream Blue M6+, let's analyze it from several aspects.

Development and Wine Background:

Gujing Gongjiu is produced in Bozhou City, Anhui Province and is a four-time national famous liquor, while Yanghe is produced in Suqian City, Jiangsu Province, and is a three-time national famous wine. In the second famous wine selection, a total of eight national famous wines were selected, known as the "old eight famous wines", there are Gujing tribute wines, but there is no Yanghe. In the three editions since then, both of them have been rated as national famous wines, and from this point of view, Dream Blue M6+ and Gu 20 are both famous wines with strong backgrounds.

Gujing Gongjiu and Yanghe are the two most core famous wines of the Jianghuai Liquor School, which is stronger, Gujing Gongjiu or Yanghe, it can only be said that feng shui rotates. Probably before 2005, the development of Yanghe was not as good as that of Gujing Gongjiu, and when Yanghe first entered the new century, it was on the verge of stopping production.

Since 2003, Yanghe launched the blue classic, Yanghe's sales began to soar, around 2005 the turnover officially surpassed Gujing Gongjiu, in 2010 the acquisition of Shuanggou Liquor, in 2011 the performance surpassed Luzhou Laojiao to become the third in the industry, until now.

In the following years of the new century, the development of Gujing Gongjiu has been in a state of decline. Because of the decline in reputation and wine quality, the development of Gujing Gongjiu was sluggish, and there was a risk of delisting in 2005, and the sales of Gujing Gongjiu in 2008 were only 1.36 billion, which was surpassed by Yanghe by more than 100 million. It was also in 2008 that Furui launched the vintage puree series, which began to reverse the decline.

The results of 2023 have just been released, Yanghe's revenue has exceeded 33 billion, and Gujing Gongjiu's revenue has also exceeded 20 billion, and the two sides each control a piece of the world.

Today, both Gujing Gongjiu and Yanghe will no longer face the dilemma they once had, and they are also one of the leading enterprises in the domestic liquor industry. At present, Gujing Gongjiu is the boss of Anhui liquor, Yanghe is the boss of Jiangsu liquor, and the two famous liquors are still dominant, but the development of Yanghe is better than Gujing.

On the mouth:

Some people compare the taste of Sichuan wine pie with Jianghuai liquor pie, and think that Sichuan liquor pie is more prominent in cellar aroma and mellow taste, while Jianghuai liquor pie is more focused on soft and elegant. In fact, this statement is incorrect. To be precise, it is indeed sweeter and cleaner, fresh and elegant than Sichuan wine, but if it all comes down to softness, this must be wrong. Let's take Dream Blue M6+ and Gu 20 as examples.

Dream Blue M6+ belongs to the blue classic series, the biggest feature is softness, in fact, Yanghe created the domestic liquor system. There are a number of liquors in the Jianghuai liquor school that are influenced by the Yanghe Mian Rou series, such as Shuanggou Liquor, Jinshiyuan, Tanggou Liquor, Xuanjiu, etc., and other products from other regions, such as Wuliangye's Mianrou Jianzhuang.

Another part is to adhere to the original cellar aroma, fresh and sweet style, but the style is also softer than the original, such as Gujing Tribute Wine, Yingjia Tribute Wine, Blast Furnace Wine, Seed Wine and so on.

Dream Blue M6+ has a soft entrance, a mellow body, a sweet but not greasy taste, and its sweetness is mellow and sweet, and the aroma of this wine is the same as smelling the fragrance, it is the kind of soft and compact compound fragrance, with a sense of softness and purity, with a slight hint of aging.

Gu 20 inherits the typical taste style of Gujing Gongjiu, which is more mellow than M6+ in the mouth, soft and delicate and sweet, and not spicy in the throat. Its body is clear and not turbid, the cellar aroma is rich and mixed with a light aroma of aging and flowers and fruits, and the overall taste is very harmonious. In terms of taste, both have their own characteristics.

Regional Directions:

Regional factors have a greater impact than the above ones, after all, people are emotional animals, and they will have this kind of regional feelings. Gujing Gongjiu is produced in Bozhou City, Anhui Province, and Yanghe is produced in Suqian City, Jiangsu Province. In other regions, it depends on the brand influence of both.

If you choose only from these two wines, the vast majority of Anhui people will choose Gu 20, while the vast majority of Yanghe will choose Dream 6+. When Gujing Gongjiu was weakened, Yanghe began to attack the southern region of Anhui on a large scale, and now Gujing Gongjiu has begun to counterattack, using Nanjing as a springboard to gradually open the market in southern Jiangsu. This is the phenomenon of "Su wine attacking Hefei and Huijiu hitting Nanjing" later.

However, in recent years, it is obvious that Yanghe's market share in Anhui Province is not as high as before. In the first quarter of each year, Yanghe's revenue can account for more than 40% of the total annual revenue, why is this?

This is because the first quarter includes the lunar month and the first month, and the end of the year is the time when a large number of people gather and visit relatives and friends. Although some things are flashy, they are very passable in terms of face. Relatively speaking, although Gujing Gongjiu also had the most performance in the first quarter, it was relatively stable.

In terms of price:

To be precise, Dream Blue M6+ and Gu 20 cannot be regarded as high-end liquors, and they should be in the sub-high-end. Dream Blue M6+ also has M9 and manual classes up to the top of the ancient 20; there are also ancient 26, ancient 30 and Chinese New Year's Eve up the ancient 20, and these are the products that really hit the high-end field.

Dream 6+ and Ancient 20 are lower than the guide price in the actual selling price, because there may be some local protection in many areas, so the selling price will be slightly different in different regions.

The actual price of the ancient 20 line is around 600 yuan, and the dream 6 is about dozens of yuan higher than the ancient 20. Compared with Dream 6, which is about to be hidden by the snow, Yanghe Company has much more relevant information about Dream 6+, and Gujing Company still mainly promotes Gu 20.

As for online purchases, due to the fragile and flammable nature of the drinks themselves, plus freight insurance, packaging fees, etc., the prices of Dream 6 and Gu 20 may be slightly higher than offline. It is recommended to buy in a group or when the merchant is doing activities, if you only buy a single bottle, it is a bit uneconomical.

Miscellaneous:

The appearance of Dream 6 and Gu 20 is very distinctive, the black Gujing Gongjiu is more simple and elegant, while the blue classic is more fresh and refined. If I had to choose, I would probably choose Gu 20, after all, when the quality of the wine is about the same, Gu 20 is more cost-effective. Like the price of the ancient 20 is lower than the dream 6, the quality of the wine is also very good, and it does not lose face.

As for everyone's complaining about the poor quality of Yanghe's wine, it is an advertising wine, which is actually a bit one-sided. The quality of the sea blue wine is indeed indescribable, and there is the sky blue between the sea blue and the dream blue, and the dream blue is indeed very good. After all, Yanghe also has more than 70,000 ancient cellar pools, coupled with the brewing base of Shuanggou Distillery, with an annual turnover of more than 30 billion, which is not comparable to few wine companies in the country.

Some people say that the base liquor of Gujing Gongjiu is purchased, and this is only once, but the purchase of base liquor is only a small part. With the completion of Gujing's brewing base in Zhangji, it has been able to fully achieve self-sufficiency in base liquor.

Gujing Gongjiu has a special place to store base wine and cellar, called Wuji Wine Cellar, which I visited when I visited Gujing Distillery in 2018 and 2021. Inside, there are large wine tanks and wine jars stored in a confined space, but you are not allowed to take pictures when you get inside.

Finally, I want to say that whether you like Yanghe or Gujing Gongjiu, the difference between the styles between the two is getting bigger and bigger. From a drinking point of view, my advice is to be loyal to the body itself rather than biased towards the brand.
