In a fishing village hut, the snails are put into a shelling machine, the shells are crushed, the meat and the shell pieces are mixed together, the meat is separated from the shells after 5 to 6 washes, and the clean snail meat is packed in plastic bowls waiting for customers to come to the door.
In early May 2023, villagers Yu Moumou and Sun Moumou, villagers in Dongtou District, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, successively purchased more than 600 catties of woven snails, and through shelling and processing of woven snails, the woven snail meat was packed into disposable bowls and sold in the market at a price of 30 yuan to 35 yuan per bowl.
By June 2023, when they were seized by the Wenzhou Municipal Market Supervision and Administration Bureau, Yu Moumou and Sun Moumou still had 141 kilograms of woven snails and 23.56 kilograms of woven snail meat on hand.

According to the appraisal of experts from Zhejiang Marine Aquaculture Research Institute and Wenzhou University, the 141 kilograms of whelks seized were supple and semi-pleated snails.
"Many years ago, I heard others say that the whelk can't be sold, I heard that some people in the Longwan sea area ate the white whelk and ate it to death, the white whelk is also called the white whelk, but I bought the black whelk, and many people are fine if they eat it, so I want to make more money with a fluke mentality. During the interrogation, Yu Moumou felt very regretful about his actions.
In December 2023, after the Wenzhou Dongtou District Procuratorate initiated a public prosecution, the defendants Yu Moumou and Sun Moumou violated Article 143 and Article 25, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China for producing and selling food that did not meet safety standards, which was enough to cause serious food poisoning accidents or other serious foodborne diseases, and should be investigated for criminal responsibility for the crime of producing and selling food that does not meet safety standards.
After the Dongtou District Court held a trial, Yu Moumou was sentenced to five months of criminal detention and a fine of 2,000 yuan, and Sun Moumou was detained for one month and fined 2,000 yuan, and the two were prohibited from engaging in food production, sales and related activities for three years.
Because Yu and Sun carried out the illegal act of producing and selling food that did not meet safety standards, and sold woven snails to unspecified consumers, which may lead to serious poisoning accidents and harm the public interest, the Dongtou District Procuratorate filed a civil public interest lawsuit against the two. On March 1 this year, Yu Moumou and Sun Moumou had no objection to the fact of damage, and voluntarily assumed 10 times the public interest litigation compensation totaling 6,000 yuan.

According to previous reports: 51-year-old Ms. Zhang, because she is engaged in the seaside aquaculture industry, often has access to all kinds of conch. Not long ago, Ms. Zhang scooped up a large number of conch shells from the pond and cooked them.
"I've eaten a few before and nothing happened, so I caught some more ...... this time," Ms. Zhang recalled. Because of the delicious taste of the conch, the two large handfuls of conch were eaten by her alone after a while. Unexpectedly, 1 hour after eating, she had symptoms of nausea and vomiting, and the area around her mouth and tongue gradually became numb.
Seeing this, the family rushed her to the hospital. It was learned that Ms. Zhang had eaten a self-caught conch, and her symptoms were considered to be poisoned. Emergency physicians immediately initiate emergency gastric lavage to reduce toxin absorption.
During gastric lavage, Ms. Zhang experienced a rapid drop in oxygen saturation and then suffered a cardiac arrest. After 9 minutes of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Ms. Zhang was transferred to the ICU ward for further treatment. Subsequently, after several hours of resuscitation, Ms. Zhang's symptoms improved.
Pay attention to distinguish when eating snails

It is understood that the weaving snail is mainly distributed in Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong and other coastal areas, the snail body is slender, similar to a cone, the tail is sharp and slender, the size is like a "nail cover", the overall length is about 1 cm, the width is about 0.5 cm, and the snail meat is light yellow. It contains about 0.5 milligrams of tetrodotoxin that can cause death, and cooking with home heat will not only not play a role in "detoxifying", but will also increase the risk of poisoning.
From April to September every year, it is the peak flood season of the snail, and it is also the most toxic period of the snail.
If poisoning occurs after ingesting a whelch, the early signs are numbness of the tongue, lips and fingertips, drooping eyelids, and digestive symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, stomach upset, abdominal pain and diarrhea soon after. In more severe cases, slurred speech, paralysis, hoarseness, difficulty breathing, confusion, suffocation and even death (respiratory and circulatory failure) may occur.
Once ingested by mistake and symptoms of poisoning appear, you should go to the hospital immediately, and it is best to bring the "snail" so that the doctor can confirm the virulence as soon as possible.
The incubation period of snail poisoning is as short as 5 minutes and as long as 4 hours. The first aid treatment in the hospital is mainly based on measures such as vomiting and catharsis, gastric lavage, diuretic and detoxification, etc., to reduce the absorption of toxic substances, and to provide symptomatic treatment to patients.
So far, there is no specific antidote for the treatment of snail poisoning. As early as 2012, the announcement of the former Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China in 2012 (No. 13 of 2012) clearly required that no food production and business operation unit shall purchase, process and sell snails. If consumers find that someone is selling snails in the market, they should call 12315 or 12345 in time to make a complaint and report.
